Meditation Audio & Journaling

Challenge

Making Meditation Accessible

I designed Mindfull as a gentler way into meditation and journaling. Most wellness apps assume you already know what you're doing, which makes it hard for beginners to stick with it. I wanted to create something that meets people where they are—whether that's guided meditation, quick check-ins, or just a quiet place to write.

UX Research
Understanding the User

I focused on young adults dealing with daily stress and constant digital noise. Through interviews and surveys, I mapped out what makes people abandon wellness apps versus what keeps them coming back. The findings pointed to a few key needs: simple onboarding, no guilt if you skip days, and features that actually fit into a chaotic schedule rather than demanding you build your day around them.

Information Architecture

I structured the app so you can jump straight to what you need—journaling, habit tracking, mood check-ins, without hunting through menus. The architecture balances quick access for regulars with clear guidance for first-timers. Everything is organized to minimize thinking, which felt important for an app about reducing mental load.

Branding

The visual language is built around softness and space. I used a low-contrast palette with deep blues and off-whites, paired with EB Garamond for a bit of elegance. The goal was to create a retreat from typical app interfaces, something that feels quiet but not sterile. It needed to support focus without adding visual stress.

UI Design
Low Fidelity Wireframes

I started with low-fidelity wireframes to map the core flows, onboarding, mood tracking, session selection. The focus was on keeping navigation intuitive and reducing friction at every step. I tested layouts quickly to see what clicked, always coming back to the minimalist aesthetic that guides the whole project.

UI Design
High Fidelity Wireframes

Once the wireframes worked, I layered in illustrations, mood-based visuals, and space for subtle animations. This is where the app got its warmth, the structure was solid, but it needed personality to feel supportive rather than clinical. The animations ended up giving the app a comforting, almost playful quality that balances the serious wellness tone.

Core User Features

The app centers on a few core things: customizable journaling, habit tracking, and mood visualization through a color-coded dashboard. I added smart reminders that nudge without nagging, and mood sliders that make it easy to log how you're feeling without overthinking it. Everything is designed to feel light, building routines shouldn't feel like work.

Engagement Features

The built-in player keeps it simple; play, pause, save your favorites. I set it against an animated cat background because I wanted something soothing that didn't take itself too seriously. These animations can also be swapped out for user preference. Saved sessions are easy to find, and discovering new content doesn't require digging through complicated filters. The idea was to make meditation feel approachable, maybe even a little fun.

Engagement Features

The journaling section lets you pick your background theme and write freely without formatting getting in the way. The keyboard is optimized for mobile since that's where most people actually journal. Emojis were created to be attached to each page as a quick reference to your day and mood tracker as you journal. You can save as you go, which removes that anxiety of losing your thoughts if you get interrupted. It's meant to feel like a personal space that's always there when you need it.
